it's the best online game i've ever played

A fantastic sim that has a seemingly infinite depth. At the start, its all about figuring out what players to put where but as the game goes on, it develops into a "club" management game, expand stadium, manage training, academy etc.

and throughout all this, games happen backed by a very rewarding (or punishing!) match engine. Pick the right tactics for a particular game and you can beat anyone.

Also, a very intuitive interface with extensive documentation to answer your niggly queries.

I have played Blackout Rugby for a couple years - you can play for free, but you get extra stats and features if you pay a nominal subscription fee. Intuitive interface, encompasses all aspects of sports team management - training of players, building stadiums, money management, transfer market, weekly matches. Also chances to play 'friendly' matches to develop players. It does take some time to advance in the ranks but if you put some time in and know something about rugby, you will make progress. Thumbs up -
2013-03-20 10:56:58 Marc (unregistered) IP: 82.237.*.*
Good at first sight but two major drawbacks :

1) an awful match composition interface
2) the system is set to favour old players
2013-03-25 11:10:35 Raggs (unregistered) IP: 213.251.*.*
Bad bad bad. Interesting at first, but suggestions are not taken seriously, and approved suggestions never gets implemented. Unfriendly community, new players are openly referred to as plebbs and noobs, and if you are a free player (as opposed to a paying member) you get told to shut up and enjoy the free game. Do not be deceived, the entertainment value of this game will soon fizzle out.
2013-04-02 03:01:33 Hyde (unregistered) IP: 120.22.*.*
Game is rigged to favour paying members. I you aren't prepared to pay, then I suggest you don't bother.
2013-04-03 08:09:20 (unregistered) IP: 66.45.*.*
Don't bother with this. Earlier bugs in the game have allowed the users playing from Beta days, to entrench themselves in the game, making it impossible to reach Division I now. Why was the game not reset after Beta testing? Older players are merciless in their responses to new players. Be prepared to play for years only to get stuck in Division III, or if you are VERY lucky (if a higher team goes bot), you might reach Division II.
2013-04-03 08:18:16 DJ (unregistered) IP: 66.45.*.*
Mods and so called 'Game Masters' are unfriendly. I agree with user above stating that its pointless making suggestions. Seems like the developers are unable to bring 'approved' suggestions into the game. Many, many leagues are also empty, filled with bots, with the game owners seeming more interested in getting paying members to create affiliate clubs, than with getting and keeping new players.
2013-04-03 08:22:26 (unregistered) IP: 46.17.*.*
Rather play XVManager or Rugby Dynasty!

2013-04-07 23:37:10 hop (unregistered) IP: 70.171.*.*
This game is unfair to new managers. Like the comment above me said it's almost impossible to play in division 1 unless you've been there since season 1. The game has a lot of bots teams in the lower divisions, which makes the game boring.
2013-04-08 05:23:50 West (unregistered) IP: 210.50.*.*
If a management game is one where management = results (good or bad). Then this is not really a management game anymore.
2013-04-09 10:43:41 ChooChoo (unregistered) IP: 192.73.*.*
Unlike the creators of Battrick (allen-fc) and Fromthepavillion (FTP-Ash), the creator of BlackoutRugby (Jeremy) wants no direct interaction with the players of the game. Everything is left in the hands of the 'mods' who are so drunk on power that they believe themselves to be above the law, the so-called be-all and end-all. Other games have regular Q & A sessions with the developers, in Blackout you don't hear from him. All communication ( and apologies for stuff ups ) come from the mods.
2013-04-11 10:40:04 mcc (unregistered) IP: 149.135.*.*
strategy setting is way too simplistic. If you know your rugby you will be dissapointed with this aspect

Play at your own risk. Too many chiefs in the game, not enough indians.
2013-06-05 03:52:32 Jim (unregistered) IP: 203.96.*.*
To be honest, I started with Blackout but I found it a bit top heavy. Never really felt like I could get anywhere. I switched to Rugby Dynasty after about half a year of it and haven't looked back.
2013-06-12 15:16:51 dtang (unregistered) IP: 188.40.*.*
Game is stuffed with obnoxious mods who, for example, are more concerned with the fact that suggestions are not in the correct format, rather than what the actual suggestion entails. Its not surprise that this game has lost over 2000 users in the last view months. I'm happily playing Rugby Dynasty, I suggest you do too!
2013-06-24 12:11:29 Jurgen (unregistered) IP: 173.231.*.*
I've stopped playing this. Dealing with the 'staff' in the game is like having your teeth pulled. The game also looks and feels old, with a tired interface, very clunky.
2013-06-26 10:04:07 Fritz (unregistered) IP: 91.201.*.*
Staff page lists over 100 staff members. REALLY????
The only active people in the forums also only seem to be these staff members. Everyone else is too afraid to participate.
2013-07-01 11:15:13 Showing_Teeth (unregistered) IP: 5.135.*.*
Absurd! I do not know how many users the game lost in recent months, but now non-paying members must contend with additional pop-up ads as well. Obviously to make up for the lost earnings. Thats it for me. I'm not playing this anymore.
2013-07-03 08:19:53 TS (unregistered) IP: 77.247.*.*
I tried this, finally gave up. Just too frustrating. The match engine is old. Yellow and red cards show in the stats, but does not actually feature during matches. The match engine runs on 2005 / 2007 union rules, a bit outdated.
2013-07-05 14:31:01 Fedup (unregistered) IP: 37.221.*.*
Suggestions are countered with "this is how it is and this is how it will stay", or "if you want change then go and start your own rugby management game"

Blackout has become a dictatorship, where only paying players and their affiliates count. Save yourself a lot of headache, avoid this!

This game is losing about 100 users per week. Developers are trying to work out the non-playing members, making it exclusive to paying members and their franchise teams. Don't waste your time.
2013-07-23 14:21:41 Rugger (unregistered) IP: 151.20.*.*
I really enjoy this game, it is way better all other rugby games I've ever played. You can play it for completely free and if you want to pay then you'll have just a couple of cosmetic features more.
I recommend to give it a try, at the start it may be hard but that's the beauty of the game!
Quite new changes recently, newer established teams (like mine!) are taking over the top division!
just show patience and managerial ability and you'll get there!
2013-07-25 18:47:03 Huh? (unregistered) IP: 199.48.*.*
Are you paid to promote (the guy above me). The top teams in the top divisions and world rankings are the teams that have been playing from season 1. They have all benefited from from a major interest bug. No team that started in the last 4 years have made it to division 1 in the big nations.
2013-07-26 08:50:36 Hyde (unregistered) IP: 120.22.*.*
"No team that started in the last 4 years have made it to division 1 in the big nations" Wow that's very poor. Thanks for the info, I won't bother trying to play this game.
2013-07-29 09:08:04 Sir Ouzobat (Blackout Moderator) (unregistered) IP: 68.54.*.*
I can assure the readers that quite a few of the first 5 digits from the IP's of some the more recent negative comments are identical to those of disgruntled players that were recently banned due to cheating (which was enabled by a newer tool for the moderators and game masters to use to catch cheating players.)These comments are invalid in my opinion and should be disregarded and are in no way a true reflection of the game. For instance:

1) aside from the traditional updates that occur at the end of each season, the developers have initiated feature of the week, where a previously accepted suggestion is being incorporated into the game.

2) In regards to no team that started recently have made it to division 1, I give a list of some of the larger nations division 1 teams and when they started:

Argentina - Season 6 and 2 season 5 starters
Australia - Season 4 starter
Canada - Season 6 starter and 3 season 5 starters
England - Season 7 starter
France - 2 season 5 starters
Scotland - Season 7 starter
South Africa - Season 5 starter
USA - Season 4 starter
Wales - Season 3 starter

3) Premium players have no in game advantage over 'free' players whatsoever. The premium members merely have several cosmetic additions as well as additional information (which can be obtained by non-premium members with a little bit of dedication and the use of 3rd party apps)

Perhaps in future, if disgruntled past members wish to add negative reviews, you might want to try to atleast get the facts correct.
________________

The developers have thought long and hard about this game with many checks and balances. The game is continually advancing, and it is very rare that an online game has this much interaction between its developers and users.

Realistic, and strong match engine that with future up coming additions, from the online management sector, I can firmly say that Blackout is among the best out there in terms of interface, player useability, and enjoyment levels.
2013-07-29 09:21:56 Sir Ouzobat (Blackout Moderator) (unregistered) IP: 68.54.*.*
Finally, to highlight my point even further, one negative comment comes from a reviewer posing as Raggs: a recent addition to the Game Master position and one of the most respected players in the game.
2013-07-29 11:01:59 Esteban (unregistered) IP: 194.132.*.*
Huwag makipag-usap tae. Its made clear that premium users have a voice, whilst non-paying users must keep quiet and be greatful. Paying members have referred to non-paying members in the clubrooms as whingy, 'rubbish' , etc. If you pay to play, you are allowed to get away with abusing others.

The interface is OLD. After reading a comment above, I've checked. The red/yellow card system has indeed never worked since the game was launched. How realistic is that?

The game has lost 4000 users in the last year or so. And there is no interaction between the developer (singular) and the users.

As a moderator, its understandable that you will praise the game. But please, don't lie to people.
2013-07-29 15:10:40 Lobo (unregistered) IP: 80.82.*.*
To the Blackout Mod above:

"Argentina - Season 6 and 2 season 5 starters
Australia - Season 4 starter
Canada - Season 6 starter and 3 season 5 starters
England - Season 7 starter
France - 2 season 5 starters
Scotland - Season 7 starter
South Africa - Season 5 starter
USA - Season 4 starter
Wales - Season 3 starter"

The most recent starter that made it to DIvision 1, is a season 7 starter? Keep in mind that Season 7 finished on 30 Jan 2010. So nobody that started after Jan 2010 has made it to the top divisions ? Yet the review a few spots further up claims

"Quite new changes recently, newer established teams (like mine!) are taking over the top division!"

And this is an example of the deceit and bad management that this cobwebbed game suffers from.

So there it is. Straight from a Blackout Mod Sir Ouzobat.

15 managers have made it to Division 1 since 2010. Coming up to 4 years.

So what are our chances?...........slim to none.

I was not aware it was this bad :(

As for the mod outing people as disgruntled former users. That is pretty bad too. Is he also going to out all the IP's of blatant Fanboys? Poor form Blackout.

I quit playing after a thread in the forums, documenting and tracking the loss of active players, were close by the very mod above(Sir Ouzobat)stating:
"I'm closing this thread. As far as I'm concerned its useless and the same managers are just constantly bumping this thread so it remains at the top of the Global Lounge.
Far more useful discussion could occupy the top 4 spots visible in the global thread.
If anyone has an issue with me closing this thread, bring it up with me directly via pm."

>>Do not play this game. Very, very bad/unpleasant environment created by the mods and those playing for a long time already.

Do not bother with Blackout. The user numbers are dwindling fast. It will be under 5000 active users by the end of August 2013. The dramatic player loss is of no concern to the developers, who instead choose to implement more advertisement. Instead of improving the game, improving the match engine (the red/yellow card system has never worked, since the day the game launched), they are now busy implementing 'ad skins' or background advertising. With the amount of ads now in the game, make sure you have a AD BLOCKER if you choose to play this. No problem with making money from something, but focus on what is important. Obviously there is BIG problems if you have lost half of your active users in 2 years.

Reading the reviews from the top... the good reviews stop in 2011. One or two good reviews in 2012, but basically nothing but bad reviews from 2012 onwards. People mentioning that half the user base has stopped playing since 2011. (The wiki page on this game states that it had 9000 active users in 2011, its standing on just over 5000 now) Why ?! Did people realize that making it to the upper divisions is impossible? Did people get fed up with an incorrect match engine, an outdated design, or the horrendous environment created in the game by the devs, mods and 'senior players'? I see Matthew Scoble, mentioned on the wiki page as the brain-child behind Blackout, isn't even playing/involved in the game anymore.

My advice? Stay away. Things seem to be terribly wrong here.

The attitude by staff sucks! There is a clear need for rotation and restricted terms with people going on massive power trips with their minor responsibility. The saying of too many chiefs, not enough Indians is very well suited! Any concerns or negative views based on factual experience are seen as toxic and are either edited or deleted, or are subsequent to insults, abuse and personal attacks that staff have no control of and blatently ignore. Freedom of expression does not exist. The only focus is to invest as little as possible and attempting to gain more revenue from existing customers. This originally well thoughout game unfortunately deserves to crash and burn by not evolving with the time and adapting to the much needed requirements due to the developers becoming complacent and lazy.

Where to start... this is the only game I have ever played that has kept me so enthralled! The variety and the community is spot on, the developers keen to interact and improve the game.

There's no in game benefit of paying for premium- you only access nice extras.

Sure, it's not perfect, but it's definitely improving season on season and with the new site revamp in sight on the horizon, I can't wait.

Been playing it for 3 years now and still not bored! There are so many different ways to get involved and play this game.

Oh and in those 3 years, not once have I seen a manager's views disregarded because they aren't premium! Some of the comments above are so biased and untrue- it's laughable! Funny how the same IPs crop up several times... sounds like one sad guy having a go at the best Rugby Union online game because he can't instantly breeze his way to the top of the game, and is just throwing his toys out of his pram!

When I think at how long ago I started playing this game (several years now), I can't help but wonder at how it has kept me coming back for so long.

Perhaps it is the training, and the hope of the right player getting the right pop, or the pleasant surprise as an unexpected one arrives, making every Tuesday a small Christmas.

Perhaps it is the head to head clashes in the cup and league, and the rivalries that form between managers over the years. There are few feelings that match the satisfaction when you snatch a win when you really ought to have lost. And fewer more bitter than when the opposite happens.

Perhaps it is the community and friends that I have made with other managers. I regularly chat to some of the guys, about all things, from the game, to real rugby, and to a good chat about life (the latter after several drinks, of course). The debates that spark on the forums are entertaining, and if they occasionally get to viscous, the mods are brilliant at handling everything.

Perhaps it is the bloke who runs the game, who recently took the time to message every paying player to ask their thoughts on a potentially lucrative deal. How many people running a company care for their customers like that? And genuinely take their concerns on board? A top guy who built a top game.

Sure, there are things that could improve, but for an online, free to play (and genuinely so, no paid for advantage at all) sport management game: you won't see better. A must for any sports fan.

Blackout Rugby has got to be the best Online Sports Manager I have ever played. None of the other ones have been able to keep me playing for so long. Perhaps it's the community, the differing perspectives and overall friendliness of the community? Or maybe the interesting commentary that goes along with your game. Or maybe being able to create a team from the ground up. I absolutely love the game.

@Hyde - "These guys keep saying that there is no advantage to paying. Paying players get loads of match and player stats. If those are not an advantage, then the match engine must be meaningless. Does it just make stats up or something?"
Paying members get easier access to statistics; they are still available for free members, it's just not as easy to get them. No - the ME doesn't make up the stats and they can be really valuable.

@Marnaulty - "Just a question: If this is so good, why has it lost almost 5000 players recently ?"
A highly inaccurate details which many antagonists are throwing around. The "Active Managers" stat has dropped due to a number of factors - the primary being that a big push was done on people running multiple accounts in order to cheat the system. A very large number were caught and removed from the game, causing a large drop in this number. There was also a high signup number during the previous World Cup of people signing up to anything and everything Rugby-related - this game isn't for everyone though and many of them didn't stick around, so their "Active Manager" input dropped off again. Statistics from the game owners have shown that, when you look at the truly accurate data such as paying members and "truly" active members (i.e. no just having an account, but actually using it), the numbers have risen well since the World Cup.
@hmmmmm - I suppose "fanboys" are quite different to the "haters" that took it upon themselves to badmouth the game here when they're really just immature kids who were caught cheating and decided to vent in the public forum...hmmmmm?

@Southern Knight - other sites have plenty of screenshots that I've seen in the past. Maybe whoever created this profile here (it wasn't an official representative of the game) didn't consider the screenshots necessary.

It is quite clear what has happened here.

Slow but steady good reviews initially for this game. They were genuine and well deserved.

Years later, slow but steady negative reviews. They are also now genuine and well deserved.

The sudden influx of positive reviews in a couple of days = Coordinated fanboy spam attack. Take these with a grain of salt.

Stop posting ridiculous gushing reviews. You are embarrassing yourselves and our game.
2013-08-22 08:46:52 Basic (unregistered) IP: 77.247.*.*
Apart from the environment within the game made unbearable by the 'senior' players (something that they now seem to try and recreate on this review site), its the small things that are so very frustrating in Blackout, for example: as mentioned the red/yellow card system has never been implemented and this detracts massively from the accuracy of the match engine, there is currently no way to view all the users currently online (which will make it much easier to create friendly matches), the match engine is based on the 2005 version of the Rugby Union rules... If you want an example of the environment within the game, just look at the recent reviews above. You are not allowed to criticize the game, then you are a hater or a disgruntled cheater. In my experience, playing since end 2010, the 'negative' reviews above are legit. I'm not a cheater, I am still playing this game. For how long, I don't know. I've registered a Rugby Dynasty team recently, and so far it looks like I will give up on Blackout. Things will never change.

And while the fanboys are doing their massive upvote and good reviews campaign, care to explain why that one creator of Blackout, mentioned somewhere further up, has given up on his own concept and quit the game? What excuses do you want to throw out for that?
2013-08-22 13:28:28 Frankie Scott (unregistered) IP: 37.252.*.*
The above negative reviews are from a bunch of sour, toxic, negative players. They've all got opinions and suggestions on how to improve a free-to-play game. More than likely its the free players, without membership that are moaning like this, and instead of being grateful for a game like this, they want to now come and moan about how they dislike the game or everything that's wrong with it. So quit playing! Good riddance to rubbish is what I say! Blackout is better off without them!
2013-08-22 13:43:11 Jake (unregistered) IP: 197.108.*.*
As can be seen from the previous comment, "free" players are heavily looked down upon and treated with disrespect, despite them technically not actually even playing for free with a horde of web-ads which needs to be endured that disrupts the game interface and creates an unpleasant experience.

Funny how everybody here is complaining about non-paying manager being oppressed and discriminated against when they don't even provide evidence- show me a direct quote and link to the thread- in my experience nobody in the clubroom's views are rubbished purely because they don't have premium. 99.9% of conversation is absolutely fine- there is no group of "devs, mods and senior players" manipulating the game... anyone who thinks there is are clearly deluded or have no life and create a conspiracy theory around an online game!

Free players are NOT 'treated with disrespect' - that is an excuse used by people who make bad suggestions (either very unrealistic or just self-serving) and get obviously shot-down. Rather that listen to criticism - they cry fowl.

@Vito - co-ordinated fanboy spam attack? Try response to co-ordinated hater attack.

By and large - the environment at Blackout is positive and encouraging - talk with respect and keep your criticism constructive and you don't have any trouble.

@Basic - how does a lack of red/yellow cards detract "massively from the accuracy of the match engine" - it'd be a source of frustration for the owner of a carded player and nothing more. As for your comment on the game's creator - Northern_Knight - he was never particularly active in the game, given his intimate knowledge of it he would never be able to actually play the game and he's continuing to play a back-seat role while Jeremy actively runs the show - it's been that way for a long time and has never detracted from the game itself.

The bulk of the negative comments here are exaggerations, nit-picking or misrepresentations by the same people who are the actual ones causing arguments and unpleasantness in the game. There are the odd negative people like there always are - but they are not a representation of the game's community as a whole.

I would suggest to anyone being put off by comments here to try the game out and decide for themselves - I guarantee that if you DO decide to not continue playing, it will be because the style and/or pace of the game doesn't suit you rather than anything else.

Blackout Rugby is closest to actual Rugby Management as you can get. I have registered with many of the rugby games only to find the difficult to understand, unrealistic and in the main uninteresting. Having coached and managed actual rugby sides for the last decade I have found Blackout to be far superior in all aspects.
It takes time, strategy and analysis to get to the top. For those who care to criticize and quit just because things get tough or don't go your way maybe you should take up a little less challenging. But if you enjoy a challenge then Blackout is the game for you.

Like the game or not, one thing for sure: no space for cheaters!
Unless they can manage proxies very very well.

I understand who doesn't like the game: it isn't for everyone's taste -obviously- and the game is far from perfect.

the non paying-members issue is NON existent: I was a free member 2 years ago when I signalled a small part of a really wide cheating loophole.
A guy running 25 teams if I remember well, plus 2 national teams

Soon after the cheaters were cut from the game.
And here they are, boring in.

Or maybe they are childish guys who disliked the game, but love to state lies on it cause they didn't have what it takes to be good managers and can't face it.

I have been playing this game for over four years. It has been one of the best free online management games I've ever played> I have tried tipping comps, fantasy football and basketball teams, but this one by far has taken the cake.

Blackout requires a decent amount of work and at least a few weeks to get into the grove of things, but after the initial testing and set up phase the game becomes a highly rewarding and engaging game.

All in all, no matter whether you are a Rugby player, fan or even just sports enthusiast, the boys at blackout rugby have created an awesome game that suits almost anyone.

Not sure where all the anger is coming from above, Blackout Rugby is an excellent managerial sim, the closest thing we have in rugby to Football Manager, freely available online. The managerial mechanics work well, with player development a particularly interesting and satisfying component. Highly addictive, it has the potential to keep players amused for several years, some much longer.

Is it perfect, no, and does everyones suggestions get built into the game, no - but name a small independent game where that does consistently happen.

As with all these things, give it a go. It is a slow burner, but the long term rewards do make this a very worthwhile gaming experience.

Reading the review war happening above, its clear something is very wrong with the community of this game. Almost twenty positive reviews in 2 or 3 days, many of them in the last few hours, referring to the negative reviews as ‘trolls’ or cheats. People with honest reviews, questioning player losses and what seems like a faulty match engine.

Clearly a massive drive to upvote a game that has suffered recently. So best to take the game’s rating with a pinch of salt.

I’ll continue playing Rugby Manager, thank you, and just avoid what seems like a incredibly childish and petty community.

This is a great game, don't listen to the negative reviews that these angry ex members who got banned for cheating are saying.

1. The only way to get to division one is to buy/train better players which they obviously cant do as my team is almost to division and there are heaps of teams dropping from division one and teams from division 2 replacing them, I just started to improve my team properly in the last 2 seasons and ive gone from a bottom division 3 team to a competitive division 3 teams almost in division 2 which I will be at the end of the season.

2. These guys saying the game isn't developing and mods aren't listening is bull because they have implemented a feature of the week where they bring out a new feature every week/fortnight which managers suggest.

3. The numbers have dropped heaps in the last few seasons only because the numbers were so high because of all the 2nd 3rd 4th teams that managers had and they were caught and the extra accounts were deleted because that was part of the rules.

Whatever side of the fence, Blackout Rugby is a game that people certainly get passionate about.

It's a long term investment, rather than a quick fix though. It's not something you 'clock' in a few weeks and move on. Instead you'll have to build your club over time, if you want to rise up the leagues.

Of course there are thousands of other managers keen to do the same, so you've got (mostly) intelligent competition!

I'd hope that most people reading this just give the game a go. It's 100% free to play, so you can see for yourself. The only suggestion I'd make is not to get worried/intimidated early by all the details.

It's a game that can be complex if you want, but at the core it's simple. Either way it's the best managers that rise.

I've tried the other management games listed above in the "Top Rugby Games" block, and while I could state hundreds of things that are wrong or I don't like about them I'll just say Blackout Rugby is the game that has kept me interested for years not weeks.

I played the game for 4 years without premium membership and never felt I was at a disadvantage to premium managers. It's not a pay-to-win game, you can't buy anything to boost your club or players with real money. As for the extra stats you get to see as a premium manager, well there's very few you can't get hold of as a manager that doesn't pay if you are willing to put in the time and keep records....not that the stats have helped me at all to be honest.

I bought premium so that I could own a second club and train up international players and U20's. I like that part of the game.

If it's fine for people to who dislike the game to voice their feelings towards it then there's absolutely nothing wrong with those who enjoy it giving good reviews....what else should they do? Keep quiet and watch a game they love playing being trashed? Who else give good reviews if not the people who enjoy a game?...

I was a bit curious and was trawling around looking at the other rugby games on this site. All of them have around 300 or so votes. This one has nearly 2700 votes. Tells you how many people love this game. It's actually quite amazing it's rating has stayed so high. From what I read above there are definitely a few disgruntled people who are a bit unhappy with the game. Perhaps they did something wrong? or perhaps they felt they weren't being listened to? Regardless of the reason I feel it's quite unjust for the game to be just put downed without any resistance so I am here to say I love this game.

I have been playing BR for a few years now and no other game compares to it. High in detail, excellent game engine and an incredibly supportive dev team, what more could you want?!

Blackout Rugby is a good game. It is well structured and there is a logic behind everything in the game.

To me the best part of the game is the training system as it is flexible enough to achieve a variety of goals.

There is a part of the community that I don't like, some people seem to think they deserve to have an easy road to the top, as well as a group of players who trash any new ideas suggested.

If you are interested in a long term game, where patience is more important than effort then this game is really worth a try.

Sure... where's the proof? I've only ever witnessed a positive environment, where the owner Jeremy looks to constantly improve the site for the good of every one, as seen by the Feature of the Week updates, and his adding of several skill bar skins when he listened to the community's views on the new skill bars!

If that is not a positive environment, I don't know what is!

A superb game. I've been playing nearly 5 years and log in every day. There's no need to - you can play as much as you want - but it gets you in fast!

For those who want more, the premium features are great, so is the match engine and commentary, and the Community Clubrooms are always good for some tips and banter.

Don't need any other games!

The game is very addictive especially when you first start and have to build up your club, bank balance and facilities, its not easy and its not for those who are looking for quick rewards or instant gratification but I have really enjoyed the 18 months I have played this game!.

There is a large community on and off the site and the developers do ask opinions and take in what members say, the game is in no way perfect but is a continuously growing and evolving game that I have really enjoyed.

Almost 3 years since I started and I still have a lot of pleasure playing the game.
I've played many games, and it's the 1st one to keep me so enjoyed after all this time.

Give it a try ;)

I have played this game for 3 years, it is an intelligent, well thought out game(the best browser management game out there).

The fact that you can play for free and still be the most successful team in the game is a great aspect, as the premium features just make organising and analysing statistics easier, and doesn't give you any real(on the field) advantage over a free player.

It has a bit of a learning curve and to climb the league you do have to have a long term plan, which is why people some people become dis-enthused. Personally,I don't mind logging on for less than an hour a week to change lineups and to check training. And if I want to invest more time at I can.

This really is a brilliant game, and I hope more people sign up!

Great Game, Takes a long time to reach the top and that is awesome as you can take your time developing players and plenty of help available.By far the best online management game outthere with freindly comps and so many games to play each week if you like it never ends which you never get bored becasue there is always so much to do and aim for

Regards to the negative remarks, some are true and some are not, But what matters is if you like a management game that continually gets you excited and You can even change the names of the players fo ra small fee and put yourself in the side and train him up to be the best you ever produced, there are much more Pros than cons.

Think about if it was too easy to reach Division 1. you would get bored much faster winning all the time and having no competition, so its way better taking years to reach that goal, anmd started season 5 and im in Division 1 and know too well one day ill win it and that keeps me entertained along with the players to train for Under 20s and national teams.

I am amazed by some of the negative comments.
You can tell these are from guys that expect everything and right now.

Blackout Rugby is an amazing game. A season takes 16 weeks and starting with normal 18-19 yrs players, it takes several seasons to reach financial maturity that allows you to sustain a full strength club with high level trainers and facilities.

Getting a top team takes more thsn just training players. Indeed the best players need to get specific sessions to improve faster and you cannot train a full XV to the top at the same time. So this implies two important things: 1- a long term vision and planning is needed to optimize your incomes from other sources (stadium optimization, price money, etc...). It takes some deep understanding of the game which is easily acquired on the forums (or national offsites). 2- it is very hard to keep your team at the top as your players age faster than you can train the replacement. So there is a constant turnover in division 1. Like in in real life...

Starting from scratch how can a team except to win it all in only a few seasons? Millions would be needed to invest rapidly and that's not possible.
So I find that the game is quite challenging and only the committed managers can become the most successful.

The interface of the game is amazing compared to all the other games mentioned above. Sure lots of improvements could be done but a comparison point by point with the other rugby management games clearly show that BR is the best.

It is interesting to see that every season you have players that complain a lot because they do stupid things and don't want to recognize their responsibility. The Mods of BR are doing a great job. They have seen a lot. The newbies have a hard time understanding why their 'suggestions' are rejected. They do not know where the game comes from and what the long term goals are. They do not want to take the time to listen. They want to win it all in2 seasons, want the mods and developpers to recognize their genius and give them premium for free to thank them for showing them how the game should be.
When it does not happen, they become mean and post unsupported and undocumented messages on this site.

I am glad some of them prefer other rugby games, much simpler. It gives them a chance to understand what they are doing. For once...

From the above:

- EVERYONE has been playing 3 -5 years
- EVERYONE is in the top divisions
- EVERYONE playing the game is happy
because
- not being happy with the fact that something so blatantly crucual to rugby rules as the yellow/red card system not working in this particular match engine, will get you labelled a cheat
- you're a cheat if you aren't happy with the environment, with what clearly seems to be a mafia-like environment
- you're a cheat if you wish for something as basic as wishing to see all the online users
- the 5000 dropped players were all duplicate club owners, and were cheaters. They couldn't possibly have been players unhappy with how things are done in Blackout.
and finally
- the only reason anyone could possibly become unhappy and stop playing, will be because 'the style and/or pace of the game doesn't suit' them.

Play at your own peril. The above brute force mass-reviews and upvotes in the past few days, and attacks on anyone with a negative opinion of their experiences, is a prime example of what awaits you should you say the wrong thing in the game. Banning users from the club rooms is also not uncommon (and not for obviously offenses like swearing!). These bans are from having a point of view different from the 3 - 5 year long players. The very ones that have come here in the past 2 days with their 'Blackout is the holy grail' reviews. Yet they will get away with openly swearing in the forums, and no bans imposed on them, of course.

@Kronen (or should I call you Hinckley since you magically shar the same IP address)- your comment is a joke right?

There is no "attacks on anyone with a negative opinion of their experiences"!

I have never seen anyone banned for having a different point a view EVER, maybe if you provide some actual PROOF next time instead of just throwing in baseless statements... that'd be great!

"The above brute force mass-reviews and upvotes in the past few days"- what? Are players of the game not allowed to counter untrue statements and upvote a game they like? Or is it countering a massive smear campaign that your involved in or something and you're just getting your knickers in a twist!

Take all the negative comments above with a gigantic pinch of salt- they are baseless, don't give any examples and are in my eyes- 100% false.

So...from my personal perspective, I've played the game for a few seasons.

I've played 5, perhaps more free online rugby games.

All, less BR, have fallen by the wayside...eventually the challenge, the fun, the excitement has gone from them all and the over-simplifications, the things they don't represent, the formulaic nature...all contributed to making them no longer playable in my eyes.

For me, BR is still a challenge, it is still engaging, it is the most faithful representation of a rugby Sim I've found.

Is it perfect? Well, no, as some of the reviews above point out and I agree, it isn't perfect - show me one that is?

For my preference, BR is the best, most challenging and representative Rugby Sim online.

And to its credit, it has excellent offsites - which is where you really learn to play the game better, learn from the experience of others and think deeply about how you approach it.

BR is not a 'shoot-em-up' of the rugby world, you can't buy you way to an ace team in ten minutes and beat all the big guys. It takes patience, some dedication and a good deal of thought, trial and error. As such, I suggest it isn't for everyone, who maybe could see this slow progress as the big guys in the top leagues keeping the little guy down.

I'm not a big guy, I've not been playing for 3-5 years and I'm not one of the crowd.

But I do enjoy BR, enjoy thinking about my rugby and I can accept that the many bonuses outweigh the small negatives. And it kicks the a** off any other online rugby game I've played.

I have been playing for two years+ now, and am very happy. The most annoying thing was managers trying to use multiple accounts to cheat with, and that has been pretty much wiped out. I am not that big a rugby fan, but I like this game a lot. Loosely based on Hatrick and Battrick but more detailed

I'm a huge fan of this game.

I've long been a fan of the likes of Football Manager etc. This game is simply the best rugby management sim available.

I see a lot of negative comments - obviously no surprise there given that the game has just gone through a mass purge of players who sought to cheat and or exploit the product. The game breeds some players like that - it's complex, and long term, and very nuanced - none of which make it appropriate for the gamer who likes their wins to come every 5 minutes.

The game isn't perfect, but few are - what it definitely is is entertaining, fun, and it's growing a healthy and positive community that I enjoy greatly. I'd urge anyone interested to ignore the whining few, and join the happy many - you won't regret it.

Interesting to see all of the hugely positive reviews coming out within minutes of each other... I guess it's just a coincidence and not someone spamming from different IP addressed though... I find it hard to believe that the 5000 players that left were all duplicate accounts, and that everyone who doesn't like the game are cheaters. I skimmed the comments, and some pretty legitimate points have been made about the general feelings of players. Personally, I'd rather play any of the other games in the top 5. I've just had better experiences dealing with people in them, and find them to be more welcoming. No one is expecting to win games every 5 minutes, but I think it's reasonable to expect for your team to get better over say, 6 months. That's what happened to me and I'm not new to manager games. Rugby Dynasty and XVManager are my favourites at the moment. Each to their own though.

I am not a spam.... I am a human bean....

.....and I have loved this game from the start....

Yes....it's weighted towards teams that have been playing for a while....that's the challenge, to hang in there and build through the lean times so you are a position to compete... It would be no fun if you old buy in a Leic tigers or Can't crusaders overnight....

Yes...there has been a loss of players recently, but that was largely the amalgamation of affiliate clubs that had been previously frowned upon...it shows the part I like the most about this game...the developers actually value the opinions of the players and try to accommodate them as far as possible

Yes... You can play for free though a few NZ speckles buys you an ad free experience and a number of management tools which make it easier to juggle tasks

Yes.... There is a bit of mod politics, and if you want to get involved there are layers on layers of chat rooms, off sites, opinion boards and I am sure active trolls who just want a masterful debate on line....I choose not to as there rent enough hours in the day

And finally yes the actual game of rugby experience is a little 8 bit, but he'll, it's a rugby MANAGEMENT game, you want 360 degree scrubs and line outs get an Xbox....this game is about preparing your match day side as best you can and then going up to the box and watching, with no way to influence the outcome, just like a real manager....

AWESOME game, not for impatient or those who want instant gratification.....I can't get enough....

An amazing thinking mans game! It's Hilarious to see all the babies throwing their toys out of the pram, so you are upset because a game played against other REAL people is hard, you can't break into the top division after a short period of playing!! Are you guys for real? That's the problem with kids today, no ambition to face a challenge and to try and conquer it... this annoying microwave culture of ready meals and not having the mental capacity or strength to want to beat the best to be the best... best of luck in life guys because with this childish temper tantrum attitude not only will you have failed as a manager in an online game but also you will fail miserably in life due to having no balls for the challenge.

I have no interest in getting into a fight with internet trolls but some of the conmments on here are, quite frankly ludicrous. I love Blackout Rugby, have been playing for 4 years which makes me far from one of the old guys. being part of an active community is great and through hard work i managed my country's U20's for almost 4 seasons.

I don't see how this is not being succesful, yes i am not at the top of the tree but who cares. I get regular challenging matches and am always struggling to win the league or do well in the cup. If having to work hard to win is not your thing then i can see why you might struggle.

Greetings,

I use to play a lot of online video games, was ranked #6 in the world at one point in tribalwars world 1, but now play very few due to time. Blackout Rugby is a really well set up rugby simulation and is one of the few I still play as it is the 2nd best I have ever played (best in the Heartland Soccer Union but for rugby without question it is the best). For those ripping it in some of the posts earlier, they really need to do their research on how to excel at the game (there are a LOT of manuals out there). The easiest way though would be to set themselves up in one of the weaker nations where they could dominate in tier 1 there. Anyhow, I am tier 2 in Canada and have been for a while (use to be tier 1), and I will attest without question that it is a fair game that with the correct effort can easily lead to success if you study it enough and plan BEFOREHAND enough. If you try it and are not doing as well ask me on the site, I am a vet and with my lack of time I am known for giving out a swath of tips and pointers to newbies just cause I like to help and the game really does rock.

Cheers, ES

...oh and for the record, the reason why there are so many positive comments all of a sudden is because the BR community took notice of the negative comments trashing the best rugby game online here and so have responded.

As I said before, if you are having an issue with the game, ask me in game, I will help (or at least direct you to documents that can help). I am well known in the BR world (no I have nothing to do with the game itself, just have played it now for years and so have my own persona in the game).

It is one of those games where you can log in multiple times daily like I use to do and do really well, or due to real life timelines, log in once a week and still do decent.

Anyhow, try it, you will see, it is a great game, and if you disagree let me know in game, possibly the community you joined is not that helpful (the Canadian community is the best BR community for the record - not that I have a personal bias or anything). :P

"The Rabodirect Pro12 / Aviva Premiership / Top 14 has turned into a bloodbath, due to there being no way to penalise dirty players, as there is no card yellow/red card system in place... "

The good reviews above attack legitimate negative reviews, without making comment about the actual concerns or issues people have raised with the game. How typical of the Blackout community to try and bully folks with a gripe or opinion that does not involve singing Blackout and Jeremy's praises. This is a typical example of how Blackout's in-game forums work as well. Jeremy, the developer, has openly mentioned to a user (who has since quit) that the Blackout community 'cannot think for themselves', hence the protectionism in preventing different opinions to be raised.

Now, similiarly, the negative reviewers are called cheats, or people who are sour purely because the rate of progress in the game is too slow. When in reality they are fed up with the environment, with a rugby union match engine where the yellow/red card system doesn't work (and never has), where you cannot see who's currently online, where there has been talk of a site revamp for the past few years but has never materialised, where it seems that the only people with voices and input are the paying members and affiliate club owners, where you get chastised if you use an ad-blocker instead of PAYING Blackout to remove the ads...

Does this sound healthy to you?

I love how most (not all, most) of the negative reviews here conveniently ignore the facts given to them and/or warp them to enable them to continue bagging the game.

Someone has taken it upon themselves to start a hate war on this game and then have the nerve to accuse the supporters of being "fanboys" when we rush to its defence?

We love this game and object to it being attacked in the public eye - especially when so many of the accusations thrown at it (not all, but many) are unfounded, biased, or complete lies.

There are legitimate complaints brought up and they are listened, and responded to. What are shot down are complaints which are unfounded (and facts are given as to WHY they are unfounded) or a clearly from people expecting the game to be warped to suit their own needs.

For those claiming that it takes far too long to "reach the top" - they are yet to explain why it should be a relatively quick progression when they are competing against (usually) hundreds of other teams who all want the same thing. These teams have been playing far longer, have invested far more time and emotion into their team, and have had the nous to stay at the top when others have fallen by the wayside when things got hard(er). The fact is most people who have complained about this on the clubrooms (where we've been able to look at their team's situation and see where they're struggling) have struggled to take the next step in their development (usually promoting to the next division and/or surviving there) because their current strategy hasn't worked. I've seen hundreds of teams promote and survive in a higher division they've newly promoted to as recently as this season so it is still possible to do. I would suggest these teams need to try new strategies when their current ones fail? Maybe these same managers would struggle in Angry Birds when a strategy failed to win the level and, instead of try a new strategy, blindly continue the same strategy expecting it to work...

Nobody has said that EVERY one of the managers who left the game was due to a duplicate club - but MOST of them were and we have the facts on that. There are plenty of people who left the game because they got bored/frustrated or didn't like the game and we're working hard to maintain interest in the game for as many people as possible and continually improve the system.

Nobody has ever been called a cheat for wanting an online users page - Jeremy's agreed to implement it and it should hopefully come out in a week or two.

Complaints about ME short-comings such as no yellow/red cards or old rules are ignoring the fact that, in a simulation game, the omission of these doesn't detract in the slightest from the game itself. No cards? You can still be penalised so much that you lose the game badly so you still need to control your discipline.

Detractors will pick up on a discussion in the clubrooms where people have been negative/aggressive etc - and yet ignore the 100 others where nothing of the sort has taken place (not to mention that it's usually the same people instigating the trouble in the first place.

The fact is that the real negativity taking place in the game has been in the last year or so and has coincided with the presence of certain new managers deciding they had to be heard, and their unfounded negativity being responded to in kind.

If you have a valid criticism of the game - you are welcome to bring it up - but be prepared to back it up with facts and a suggestion of how to improve it; and also be prepared for someone who knows more about the game than you to find holes in your arguments.

I find it sad that certain people see themselves fit to discredit a good game, and thus damage the game's reputation and potential for new people to join, due to their own insecurities.

We welcome new members to join the game and we hope that you enjoy it. If you don't - please don't hesitate to tell us why, and maybe we'll be able to improve it, or maybe the game's just not for you. In any case - we'll do our best.

I'm not playing this game. Never have. My opinion is based purely on what has happened in the reviews above so far.
Thats fine in theory, but the criticism above, the ones regarding online users and the card system not being implemented in the game engine, has been answered with calls of cheaters and a number of bullying techniques. That really does not seem like the Blackout powers that be is too open to critique.

I'll just avoid this.

I've tried to avoid commenting too much here and I'll try keep this short. It's fun. Rising up with other members and catching up to managers that were previously completely unbeatable. Take for example I have this ongoing rivalry with Canadian team Aldergrove Crusaders (run by ncayer) 2 years ago he beat my team by 103 points, 1 year ago 32 points, now I've had a match today it's a draw. If a team is managed properly and the managers properly sets out to set a good base and ask questions in the questions lounge and even their offsite they can learn to achieve and catch up to people who were far superior to them.

I'm not saying it's easy, but what do you expect? You are playing against human managers who also don't want to lose. So obviously the road will be long. But that's what's fun. I really only started playing back in 2011, before I was really just a passive member. So I definitely understand some of the points people put across. But I made a change and gave the game a chance by visiting the Pacific Islander offsite. From there I garnered knowledge and understood the game could be fun. It really just takes that first step to find out what exactly this game is about.

Sure it's a big first step but once you take it the game just goes to a whole new level. You can alternate your playing style too.

A homegrown side? sure.

Be gambler and trade up on the transfer market? sure.

Train players from the ground all the way from 17 year olds? Sure

Focus on only the international scene? Whatever makes you happy.

I don't pay much attention to the negative spam because I feel like they haven't tried to understand what makes this game great. Just to criticize it. I am the suggestions manager for BR (started this year as a staff member) and have always been open and tried to allow suggestions to have the best chance of succeeding, giving suggestions and thoughts to allow for the suggestions to grow.

If any of the so called "angry mob" actually want to give the game a chance, I'm only a BRmail away. A number of people have contacted me in this fashion and I have tried to help them as best as I can to give them my thoughts and advice. Very few games have such an open suggestions system which allows players the ability to suggest what is on their mind.

Its' more about the different levels of complexity that keep me playing. The community is definitely one of the most interesting and diverse I've seen to date. No game has managed to keep me playing for this length of time ever. But I just keep coming back.

The community is what defines this game. Just 1 year ago I was a complete noob at illustrator and had 0 knowledge about how to use the tools properly, nevertheless I offered myself up to help others and the amount of positive feedback was immense. Through these mini projects (numbering over 50!) I've been able to improve a real life skill and choose a career path I wish to take. Very few games allow that to happen. That's what makes BR special.

Anyway for those prospective new members who want to try a new game think about trying BR. A game which has almost 3000 votes can't be too bad can it?
2013-08-27 15:22:18 Raggs (unregistered) IP: 62.219.*.*
I'm a bit disturbed to see someone posing as me.

I started BR a few years ago, got actively involved in England, had the privilege of being voted in to run the u20s side, have been slowly but surely working my way up the toughest league in BR, and intend to keep working away.

I have never paid for a days premium in all my time in BR, and was promoted to GM position on the staff at the end of last year.

Amusingly, a large number of the negative comments happen to coincide when large cheaters was shut down, and the IPs seem to match too (especially one that I shut down personally, pretending to be me).

I have no doubt that some of these complaints and negative reviews are genuine, you can't please everyone, but I'd hope the positive ones make people willing to at least give BR a shot.

This is becoming ridiculous. Other than accusing folks with negative views regarding this game of being cheats and other petty things, the Blackout crowd are now claiming that people are stealing their usernames for bad reviews, using the names of the bad reviews to try and undo the review. Even my name has now been used! I'm sorry , I think this game has gone too far in encouraging its selected premium members to come and vote here, even posing as other people to achieve their goal of discrediting folks giving a bad review!
And just btw, the user above me just admitted to having free premium membership, no wonder its the same people gushing praise for Blackout... their loyalty has been bought

Great game in a genre which doesn't have many games, let alone in a management-style.

If you are a true rugby fan who likes these management/strategy genre game then you will probably, like me, try any rugby game that you come across. This is one you will probably stick with though - the GUI and game engine outclasses all other that I have found, and with friendly national communities to boot!

As usual a small bunch of children who think that pretending to be real users of BR.

Very amusing - anyone interested in registering, feel free to do so. Look me up and you'll see that A) i log in there using the same IP i'm posting with now and B) that if you need help setting yourself up in the game you can just message me and i'll do anything i can to help you.

Can't say fairer than that - honestly if you've got time to read all of this pointless rubbish then you might as well be using it to try out the best rugby game on the internet. If you don't like it (which you may not) then at least it's your own opinion.

PS could the person pretending to be me get in touch so that you can explain exactly what your issue is - or are you just going to hide behind your proxy server. The least you could do is head to my office and do my work so that i can get to the pub.

Be prepared to play for 20 seasons at least before being in a position to challenge the old teams and make it to the highest division of a large nation.

One shortcoming is that the game does not tell you upfront as a new player registering for the first time that it is better to start in a small nation.

Time for me to add to my original review, a few years later...

I honestly enjoyed Blackout initially. But I agree with many of the more recent negative reviews. The card system not working is quite frustrating and detracts from the realism, and the fact that the ability to see the current online users is only now being implemented after many, many years, smells more of a desperate move than anything else. Something else that bothered me is the fact that I eventually discovered that, during the first few seasons of Blackout, there was a MAJOR bug where players managed to accumulate massive wealth due to a fault with the interest calculation. This was never undone, leaving the players who benefited from it, entrenched in their positions making them virtually impossible to beat. This is one of the reasons teams just don't make it to the first division in the 'bigger' countries, like New Zealand, England and Aus. They are forced to PAY (with USD) to move to a smaller nation, like Hong Kong or Uruguay to have a realistic chance of reaching Division 1. No one says you must move through the ranks in a couple of months, but no one wants to take 4 or 5 years to reach Division 2 with virtually no chance of progressing further.

Those players that have been playing since the early seasons... I have to admit I have witnessed their mass bullying techniques in the game forums as well. Exactly as above, with the reviews. If you dare to disagree or have critique, be ready to face their wrath. And the double standards are ridicilous.Just like the users above stating that the fact that the non-existent card system does not affect the realism, but then they are quick to attack the users complaining of the slow progression by countering with their arguments of any quicker progress in the game will be incredibly unrealistic.

Wow, this makes for hilarious reading,as a non premium member and a relative newbie I have to laugh at those complaining! It's a tough game, suck it up! as for bullying in the clubrooms.. that's laughable. There are about 4 or 5 members out of 5,000 who try to hold the conversations to ransom with their constant moaning and complaining about everything. Personally I think the devs should politely ask them to leave because they are destroying every conversation those of us who enjoy the game have.

It was mentioned in one discussion that the game already had more than 125,000 signups. Comparing this to the current 5,000 odd "active" managers, I would say there are a lot more people who were not happy with the game!

So for those who do frown when others express their dissatisfaction about the game and raise valid concerns, think again and realize that you are actually just a handful minority.

I play another online game too - currently 9,524 active from 309,319 signups. I think you will find similar statistics of retained users in most online games. That being said, many new features are constantly being implemented on a weekly basis to increase the gaming experience,100% of which have been suggestions from the BR public.

I've been looking around for a rugby game to play. Haven't played this one yet, but these comments don't really make me want to play. For the most part, the postive ones kinda read like spam to the unintiated. Geniune points being raised, nad I can understand why people are coming here to defend a game they really like, but it doesn't make me want to get involved... All this talk of IP addresses is also something that is a bit offputting and kinda intimidating. Again, understand that it's not cool to pose as other people, but still, it's a bit lame... Probably not the right place to ask this, but of the people who don't like Blackout, have you found any that you like more, and why? WHen I get round to it, I'll probably try out a few of the top rated games. If Blackout is so bad, what would you say is a better game?

Not cool to pose as other people? When you are actually using libelous statements to attack a functioning business for no other reason than you don't like it then i would suggest that it is a little bit more than not cool.

As i said before - if you want to try it out, go for it you might like it you might not. I really don't know how the blatantly obvious attempt at creating a fuss above can sway anyone's opinion (in either direction).

Unregistered voters, people posing as other users, high percentage of posts from behind proxy servers - don't think i'll come here for opinions again.

Hey Ouzobat, why don't you update the Wiki page to reglect the year/season that your national cup and league winners have joined Blackout? My honest opinion of this game? Its ok, but its also got quite a few flaws. Can't blame the game for the community that inhabits its forums, of which I'm not going to bother sharing my opinion. What ticks me off is not only the card system not working(as mentioned by others), but also the fact that you can name your club and stadium to whatever you want, ie ACT Brumbies or DHL Stormers, but you are not allowed to rename a player from your club after an actual, real-life rugby player, like Richie McCaw or George Gregan. This is apparently for legal issues. If you allow the one, surely you should allow the other? I have had some fun in the game, but I'm rating this game 'average'. It deserves no more.
2013-09-02 20:10:55 frank hadden (unregistered) IP: 109.149.*.*
yeah - that card system (which has no material impact on the game) really is infuriating isn't it? I'm amazed by the number of posters who focus on this one aspect of a game - cynics would say they are the same person (or group of people).

Yes, it would be an enhancement but given that a massive part of a players attributes is their discipline and aggression, tactics can be set to utilize (or minimize) these attributes and players are heavily penalised in game by penalties then i don't see how anyone's enjoyment can be reduced by their absence.

I've got a funny feeling though that the only people reading this are the ones who play and love it and the ones who hate it because they have some weird grudge.

As i have said before (and many others too) stop reading this boring pointless nonsense (including my writing) and try it. It's free to find out if you hate it

I play both BR and Rugby Dynasty. Rugby Dynasty is a great game and doesn’t deserve this.

Why can’t we be happy to have a couple of good games?

hellshocker is above criticising people he claims are posing as other users and now he is doing it. He is also asking people to point to evidence of negativity in the Blackout community.

Before crying foul over hellshocker, it might be worth checking to see if he might have been posting under his RD username in the RD review section. Seems like the most reasonable explanation to me, as it would be the username that other RD managers would know him by.

I would still say that if it is him it might have served him better to disclose this when as I said he has been critical of others posting with multiple usernames.
Also I would hope that most BR users would give other games more than one log in before declaring how bad they are. We ask people to be very patient with BR and be well informed when being negative. Lets extend others the same courtesy :)

Great Rugby Union management game.

Good freemium approach preventing money spending from outbalancing the game. One of the few cons is that time has a direct impact through money income weekly and prevents newer teams from progressing quicker.

Marvellous National Teams environment that gives an additional dimension to players that might get bored in club management.

Better to try and see

Blackout rugby could really be the best on line rugby management game, but there are still several lacks.

It's true, this game is terribly slow in order to develop a decent competitive team. If you are good enough, the only thing you can hope to reach is division III after starting from div IV. And then for many seasons you can see the same teams being continuously relegated/promoted to/from divIV/divIII.

Also training is damned slow, despite higher quality training staff and facilities are very expensive. To be honest everything is very expensive, and often you have to sacrifice your squad to avoid bankruptcy...

A strange player's wage system make you pay a totally useless player about the same of an average skilled player...

If you want to run a young academy to develop your youngsters you have to choise if sacrifice your first squad because of unsustainable costs. Or perhaps you can wait several real life years to start enjoying fully the game...that's why newbies quit soon! In this way the gap with older users seems unbridgeable.

Finally I say one thing about the discrimination of free users. I noticed it's true the fact that sometimes somebody reproach you don't while visiting the forums. And it's also true the fact that premium managers get some advantage: the can use the auto-bid option on trade market and put an automatic bid even if they are offline, but they can also save money setting up a maximum offer while perhaps a free user can only put his best offer at once and hope. That's surely unfair!

Let's wait for the announced changes that are going to update the game, but meanwhile I'm increasingly attracted by rugby dinasty...

Avoid this game, honestly. The moderators are like cancer. They have completely no respect for anyone. They will attempt to destroy you if you have an opinion that differs from theirs on the mighty creator of the game: Jeremiah Ding-Dong. I was banned from the game for disagreeing with the mods and not being one of the sheep merely blowing smoke up the developers arses and stroking their egos. I then registered again, and the same thing happened. If you insist on playing this game, do not participate in the discussions. Just nod and praise the game. Don’t make suggestions. If you do have a though on how the game can be improved, humbly suggest it, and then quickly walk away when the Masters rip it apart.

I re-registered, under another name (Indigo). All went well while I kept quiet, not raising my opinion or participating in the clubrooms. Once I did start to comment in the forums, the attacks and petty comments from mods and long-term paid members on me started. From being told straight that I could not possibly have an opinion because I’ve only been playing for 6 months, to openly sarcastic and snide comments from mods (specifically Sir Ouzobat). I reported Sir Ouzobat, questioning the relevancy of his snotty replies. This only resulted in my new profile being banned, along with the profile of a work colleague because our IP addresses are the same. This particular work colleague paid for 2 years membership, of which he still has over a year remaining. No replies to emails have been forthcoming from Blackout and its creator. Finally a response (because he used a different email address) came, stating that not only have they blocked our profiles from logging in, they have also blocked our email addresses, because “it will not be discussed further” . Pantherus, a developer for Blackout, even went so far to post in an open chat room that “oh my f___king god, I want to punch that punk H*******d in his weasly little face – little c__t.” H*******d is the name of the PAID MEMBER whose account was cancelled. Because he shared an IP with me, and because he dared to have similar opinions that differ from the majority, and to make suggestions on improving the game. Suggestions that will be detrimental to the long-time players, all of whom benefitted greatly by an completely absurd interest bug, allowing them to accumulate vast financial reserves. This, in turn, has allowed them to entrench themselves in such a way that it is impossible for anyone that started playing after them, to reach division 1. Now, as a developer, to post something like that about a paid member, in a chat room used by other Blackout players, shows you EXACTLY of what the creator and developers think about the very people they say that they created Blackout for.

Stay away. You WILL be wasting your time and setting yourself up for abuse. Mentioned the benefit that those that benefitted from the interest bug have had, and you will be told to stop your whining. That it’s a long term game. Well. No one that has started playing in 2009 and later have made it to Division 1. And from the 100 000+ users that have registered, only 5000 are still playing.

Hmmmm yes, Cairns. When one makes comments or suggestions on how to improve the game, how to improve the time-frame on progression in the game, or how to level the playing field to negate the unfair benefits and advantages those have that benefitted from the interest they earned in the beginning of the game (whilst interest has been removed from the game to anyone starting after season 5), you get attacked, belittled or told to 'go play another game if you are ungrateful' for this freemium game. The suggestions that have been 'accepted' (ie anything that will NOT affect the entrenched season 1 - 5 veterans) they simply never, ever get implemented. And of course, the developers can openly swear at and abuse members.
2014-01-22 02:19:10 Sir Ouzobat (Moderator) (unregistered) IP: 96.244.*.*
Being one of the mods behind this investigation, I can safely say that this issue has gone too far now.

Trent242/Indigo/Hellbound81 were suspended from the game for creating multiple accounts (41 IP addresses matched and time stamps showed they logged into the system a majority of the time several minutes apart, despite them insisting that they only knew each other from work), consistently breaking the game rules, and harassment of the game staff. It is stipulated in the laws of the game that people breaking these rules will be suspended. A group of staff looked at the evidence put forward from 6 months of investigation, and we ALL concluded that this manager should be erased from the game immediately for the above reasons, and is no longer welcome in the game.

It is obvious that this user will not quit from going on a rampage to smear the game with lies, baseless comments and just pure malice due to the fact he got caught.

While I understand that there will be a level of frustration and denial with being caught out, It is hoped that this matter is put to rest and this user perhaps uses his efforts elsewhere. It is a shame, as one of his aliases was quite an active and respected member of the BR community.
2014-01-22 07:40:09 DON (unregistered) IP: 197.169.*.*
The proposed evidence sounds a bit far-fetched... I'm certain you will find that same pattern among a majority of managers, including staff members.

There is also no advantage in playing the game with multiple accounts, with player transfers blocked for teams with matching IP addresses.

For an 8 - 5 workday, what time would people log in if the bulk of their logins are done from work? Keep in mind, this is for office bound people. Who start work at 8... and leave at 5.

Did you check the after hours logins? Did you check the logins during December, when one individual was on leave for 4 weeks, and the other was on leave for 2 weeks?

In the 'cancerous' attacks on the game and the developer in the threads: how many posts were there where either of these individuals attacked the creators or mods personally? Where did these individuals swear at ANY other user of the game? Or called them stupid? Or told them they are not entitled to any opinion, because they have only been playing the game for a short time?

The post above shows where a DEVELOPER, Pantherus, openly ranted in a public chatroom, used EXCLUSIVELY by the New Zealand Blackout users, about a paid member of Blackout, not a free user. He swore him, calling him a c_nt as is clearly evident here :

s16.postimg.org/z9epblf6t/Screenshot.jpg

Trent242 and Hellbound were branded because they expressed dissatisfaction with the status quo, where the top tier/division in the big nations belong exclusively to 'managers' that have registered in seasons 1 to 5. Thereby entrenching themselves in such a manner that no other team, in the big rugby playing nations, has EVER won division 1, outside of the teams that registered in the first seasons, thereby benefitting from a ridicilous interest rate of 20%, per season, for 7 seasons.

Suggestions on how to better the experience for new players were shot down, because this would SERIOUSLY affect the those seasons 1 -5 veterans.

Hellbound was a PAID member of Blackout. In his third year of being a premium member, with a year of his subscription still remaining. He would not be foolish enough to endanger the USD 41.60 paid per annum for membership.

Yes, Trent242 and Indigo was the same person. Indigo was registered once you decided to BAN Trent242. So, no, no one was breaking any rules, because there was NO multiple account held by a single person at the same time on Blackout.

This is all about what happens when you say and do things that question the status of the seasons 1 to 5 registrants.

I reported you, Ouzobat, in the game. As a mod, you responded to my comments by attacking me personally, by attempting to belittle me by questioning the validity of my comments since I've only been playing for 6 months. And surprise suprise, nothing was done to you for that behaviour. The same way nothing was done to Pantherus for swearing at Hellbound to other Blackout users. There you have. So thanks for your response, you've enabled me to clearly show how people are untouchable in the game, and that people who DO decide to play, must know their place, keep quiet or just shower everyone with praise.

Oh, and Ouzobat: When Trent242 and Hellbound first registered, full disclosure was made that we are different individuals. At another time, when one of the veterans first reported us for having similiar IP's (in response to a thread where we dared to have an opinion different from the veterans), GDBFC99 (another mod) expressed satisfaction that he can see upon closer inspection that we are indeed different individuals.

Ignore THE CHEATS AND LIARS making up false accounts to leave bad reviews, they CHEATED, they were CRAP at the game even thought they cheated and so THEY WERE BANNED. There was an investiagtion that took months by many many staff and admins that proved without doubt that ONE KNOBHEAD had created hundreds of teams (like on here) and CHEATED. But because he still coundnt win he CHEATED some more. Over 40 IP addressess all linked to one loser!

Hear, hear. Much sense in this screenshot. It's a pity they couldn't get rid of you earlier. You've given nothing to the game but malicious, vindictive, libellous rubbish and, on top of that, you've consistently cheated despite warnings. BR is better off without you.

Now get lost and move on with your life. Or go and get some help.

To everyone else, BR IS the best game going. Even better now it has been cleaned up a bit :)

Here is yet another example of the treatment managers endure when saying anything that the Masters of Blackout don't like.

postimg.org/image/5krdmr4ux/

chewy (a former staff member) calling a fellow manager a "f****n tool"!

It is quite clear that there is a very unhealthy environment in the game which the developers just choose to ignore, instead those who oppose it are targetted by game staff and their friends, being the ones who are terminated from the game indefinitely, with any falsified made-up story presented to justify their actions.

Jameson (review above) all these so called nasty comments are all to one Manager, YOU! You created hundreds of accounts and cheated, you insulted and threatened hundreds of players on the forum, and then you get on your high horse when people say they wont allow that!! You have been banned, please just go on your way while this game GETS BETTER AND BETTER! Bye bye

Whatever is going on above has got to stop. Its honestly pathetic. Clearly there are two sides here, only one side providing proof of its accusations with screenshots. (I must say, looking at the screenshots: If those really are the game developers and mods treating users like that, its disgusting). The other side is calling them blasphemous cheats, that they were abuse to the game devs and accuse them of creating god-knows-how-many false accounts. Either provide evidence of cheating, and also how you treated the complaints against their 'attacks' in your discussion rooms, or keep quiet and let this come to an end.

I do have one question: Is it true that only 15 managers since 2010 has made it to the best divisions?????

The following question was asked in Blackout:

The counter argument from staff is that, after MONTHS of investigation, it was concluded beyond a shadow of a doubt that Hellbound and Trent242 are the same person.

I just have one question (and with the evidence you have, it shouldn't be difficult to put this matter to rest once and for all) : Have you checked the in-game mails exchanged between these two accounts (Trent242 and Hellbound) ? Since Hellbound was a premium member (he paid real money to play the game) that was sumarily removed from the game, I'm sure all of your bases are covered, but it would put my mind at ease that they weren't kicked out merely because of "direct and personal disrespect, and malicious intentions towards Jeremy and the game" . In that regard I'm sure folks can handle people with opinions different from them. People here claim to be adults, after all.

The question was immediately removed. Got much to hide then, Blackout????

WOW Trfc06 or whatever your game name was before you changed it, "HUNDREDS OF ACCOUNTS" you say???

Will it be possible for you to list all of these?

Regarding this so called "cheating", is it possible for you to provide the transfer histories of these hundreds of accounts where they benefited from exuberant sales to enrich themselves, similar to how all the starter teams have with the well known interest bug as mentioned multiple times above?

Are you also at all able to provide any evidence of these so called "insults" and "threats" to backup your accusations?

I have been banned? No I actually have not been banned, I still play the game very patiently in peace and avoiding the clubrooms to not suffer the same abuse as the players above have.

I believe your credibility is standing at 0% at this stage, so perhaps you should strongly consider to stop trolling and spamming this thread with lies.

You appear very naive and should try harder to not just blindly believe the lies staff members and their friends propogate without them providing conclusive evidence from where you can then make up your own mind on the matter, which is exactly what the other users above have done.

Active user count kept inflated by game devs (to make it look like there are more users than there really is), ideas stolen from better games (like the recently implemented ZONAL DEFENCE blatantly ripped off from Rugby Dynasty), premium users suspended with no refund (with no proof of their wrong-doing provided, merely the 'moderators' accusations), the developers openly swearing and abusing players, interest bugs benefitting those playing from the beginning, broken promises (accepted suggestions NEVER EVER implemented), not a single team playing from the end of 2010 making it to the top divisions, and about 100 'staff' members (2 developers and about 98 mods patrolling the so-called forums), so many leagues filled with bots, instructions from mods to disable your ad-blocker to allow the developers to make more money, a broken match engine (yellow/red cards not working), 4000 users leaving the game in the last year alone.

Then of course you have the power-mad moderator, Ouzobat, who feels its ok to close threads off, merely for the sake of having better looking threads occupy the top for slots in the sub-forum. Threads more useful than discussing the concern with the loss of active users.

Anyways. There we go. Reasons why Blackout rugby is quite possibly the worst run game, suffering from abusive staff and an antiquated match engine, and now dropping to the level of blatantly stealing ideas from much better games.

For people viewing the comments I am surprized to see a number of negative reviews with comments that are entirely incorrect. It seems to be the work of one recently banned player that obviously has some psychological issues.

My pros and cons of the Game

Pros-
1.Re-name player,trainers
2.Junior team as well as seniors to train
3.Friendly competitions which can be better than the cup and league games when you start with usually a very friendly community in them.
4.Premium 3d pitch
5.Tactics very close to how you would play in certain weather
6. Game Developer is approachable and does answer your private messages quick.
7.Second in Charge Pantherus is also very helpful in any information needed.
8. can coach national or under 20s teams(but not easy to be voted in).
9. Division rise is not as bad as some have thought.(im in div 1 and started season 5)won 4 bronze trophies in pass 4 seasons
10.Very Possible to catch other teams with how you manage your team and finances

Cons-
1.Some staff can make some bad calls in the game(letting go ridiculous bids on transfer market which can make it viable to cheat or attract cheats.
2.Opinions can be an opening to some idiots that like to call names and go off topic. this does happen when they in disagreement and cannot express there debate which instead they call names and act like little kids.
3. really best way to enjoy it is premium membership. price is kind of reasonable regarding premium

Blackout rugby is now becoming a really ridiculous game with its absurd commercial policy. Do you want a very recent example?

Well, some weeks ago the devs had the genial and crucial idea no less than...get rid of very useful option to compare at a glance your opponent's lineups with news page.
And now try to figure out what has happened few weeks later this undesired change? Well, after a mass revolt the same devs have decided to reintroduce this option but surprise surprise!!! Now this feature is available only for premium users!!!
If you are a free user, and if you are enough involved that you are used to study your opponents before your matches, you can continue to compare your opponents' lineouts but now you have to open lots of tabs on the browser and damn the devs...
This simply means they are screwing you. I'm a free user and I do say I'm more concerned to leave this stupid senseless game than to buy a premium account and waste money.

Did you read all the angry and time-wasting comments above? That's blackout rugby!!! Do you think you could have fun with such a "game" even if you have money to waste buying a premium account? I would spend my money and free time in a more enjoyable way...so if you want a friendly tip KEEP AWAY from blackout rugby!!!

Why all this complaining about such a lucrative and greedy game when you can fully enjoy better rugby games for free?

Leave it for those few premium dumbasses till this game will miscarry for good!

I am stunned by reading these recent comments and to see that I am not the only one who feels the game developed a very dark environment.

Good luck to the developer if you think you can make your life's earnings from a fringe minority.

"5387 active users"

But there is NEVER, EVER more than 400 or 500 users online at the same time. Even when training updates have just happened. Why? Because the active user count is falsely inflated. 1 user with 5 affiliate clubs is counted as 5 active users. So the accurate value of the active users, is about 1000. And this info was given to me by one of the newly appointed 'staff'.

This game is flawed and corrupt. And still no interest from the developers to fix the red/yellow cards not working (broken match engine), and after 21 seasons, there is STILL no search function in the forums.

And as for the unfair advantage of players that registered in seasons 1 to 5 over anyone else...
Here is how Sir Ouzobate describes himself:
" Season 3 starter, super low salary, upgraded stadium, nearly a 40 million profit on the TM, but spent a huge time training players. Just as a hint about my bank roll, I cracked the 50 million mark a few weeks ago."
He even gives us a screenshot:

Training isn't effective at all and it needs very very long time to grow a good player, no young academy is available unless you are willing to sacrifice your first team development, every feature is very expansive to afford and you seriously risk to go bankruptcy after few weeks, you never will be able to compete against older managers because they will always be stronger and richer than you, if you watch your matches live you get soon bored because of repetitive written comment and if you are a paying member 2D graphics is even more ridiculous and senseless...

Don't waste your time and leave this game those few pompous older premium managers that are dominating a sort of private elitist game!!!

By far the best rugby game ever. thousands of managers and they are growing every week!! Great devs and staff and updates EVERY WEEK.

WOW HELLBOUND, must really wind you up all those wasted days and hours trying to cheat your way to the top, and all the time you were calling people on the forum and explaining to them that you know best and you are so great. And now your banned, have you seen your team, all those hard trained players have gone to other teams and all your effort is helping the people you hate to win more games!! That must really really really piss you off.
And then there are all the other hundreds of managers that are laughing at you all day every day!! Feel so sorry for you, BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!

HELLBOUND - YOU CHEATED, YOU CHEATED, YOU CHEATED, YOU WERE STILL CRAP AT THE GAME AND YOU WERE BANNED. No go away, you really are a knob!!

BLACKOUT RUGBY IS THE BEST GAME BY FAR, GIVE IT A GO AND YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!!!

Well, this game has become a police state. All negative posts in the game's forums are summarily removed, and the user banned. Almost no activity in the Off-Topic clubrooms.

Just prove that the game creator cannot handle criticism.

BR is pretty much Hattrick for Rugby. If you like HT or Battrick and also Rubgy, odds are you like it.

I don't know what's up with the crazy guy here, but the people in BR seem fine and I have not noticed anything bad on the forums. People have been helpful.

@Fred, if you haven't noticed yet, anything slightly "negative" in the clubrooms get deleted straight away! Should you not take my word for it, give it a go yourself, mention something in the lines of team development that takes too long or how newer teams cannot catch up to the old dogs at the top inadvertently just wasting your time playing the game. Good luck! Just be mindful of spending any money on the game, perma bans is a reality.

@thetruth, aka trfc06, it must really be hard to be such a noob retard by still not understanding the game after more than 3 years of player (12+ seasons) with all the idiotic stupid question you constantly bomb the clubrooms with! There are institutes which can help with your condition if you didnt know, OK.

trfc or whatever you are... you epitomise the quality of players found in Blacksout Rugby. For someone close to 50, you really are a sad individual. Go and excercise a bit more... maybe you'll see your willy by Xmas.

My mom is a 71 year old disabled diabetic, only someone as mentally ill and disturbed as you will find her attractive for intercourse. Get a life mate.

I would just love to know what your wife and daughter would think when they saw your psychotic remarks...

Very fun game that is perfect for a real life rugby player or a coach. Easy to learn, hard to master.

Sorry, this game is pathetic. Stealing ideas from the better Rugby Manager games out there, does not reflect 'improvement'. It smacks of desperation.
And the fellow above is a prime example of the trash that plays Blackout Rugby. For a friendly, supportive community, give Rugby Dynasty a go. You will NOT regret it!

37.227 - I just have to laugh at your experience. It doesnt surprise me at all!

When Trent and I raised concerns about the game in the clubrooms the game staff despised it and gave us perma bans.

Is Jeremy still involved with the game or is Pantherus now doing all the work?

Want to know if you will have a pleasant experience playing BlacksOut Rugby? Just read the above comments from the existing players. Glad to see the same quality of players are still in Blackout.

Just started a few seasons ago and I really like the game. The game has enough in it that I Iog in about twice a day. It is difficult to catch up to the older players but thats how it should be but Im already progressing well. Its pretty realistic and Ive always felt that the community is helpful and entertaining. I tried most of the other rugby games but I lost interest in them.

Overall I would give it a 8/10 for useability, 8/10 for realistic game play and 9/10 for enjoyment. I am looking forward to the site revamp.

It would be great if a admin from this site could go through and erase the comments by the two people using the same IP addresses over and over again and claim to be different people. It has sabotaged this page.

What 2 people? According to the Blackout Police, Trent and Hellbound is the same person??? At least that was the excuse when both players were banned (Hellbound being a paid member of the game),

Is a really good game, been playing for years, had doubts at times but really worth staying in it for the long haul where you can rename yoru own players, be involved in nations u 20s and National and rise in the ranks, they have mentor system to help you get by. its a long haul game and worth the time spent.
34 countries to choose from and World Cups every season.
Friendly comps that improve your players.
Many managers there to help out

Gave it a try. Not worth it. Unpleasant environment in the chat rooms detract from long term playability. Others seem to agree... the game sits with 7,318 Facebook likes, but only 4237 Active Managers.
