Understanding the basics of the NFL draft.
In the NFL Draft the team that gets the worst in the previous season gets the first pick in the draft. A team will have two options on what to do with their pick, they can either draft a player or trade up or down the order, thus acquiring or sending a combination of picks and/or players to get what they want.

The NFL draft consists of a total of seven rounds, with the first three typically drawing prime-time coverage on national TV. The first round was held on the 29th April and the next two on April 30th. The last four took place on May 1st.

Generally, the majority of those that will get drafted are college football players that are three years out of high school, however, there are some athletes from overseas or from Canadian Universities that can be drafted too.

Basically, the NFL draft is how the 32 NFL teams get their fresh new blood for their teams.

Players to keep a keen eye on.
In recent years the draft seems to have taken a turn for favoring quarterbacks to be picked early on, as they are widely considered as being the most important position on a football team. This idea has been echoed in recent picks, as there are five main quarterbacks that were looking to be picked on the Thursday night, the crown duel being Clemson signal-caller Trevor Lawrence, a prospect who had been hyped up from his senior year of high school, he was quickly swept up by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2021 draft as expected.

Then there was BYU’s Zach Wilson who was swept up by the New York Jets. Trey Lance, a quarterback who was swept up by the 49ers from the Dolphins through the Texans.

It's also worth keeping an eye on Justin Fields who was taken by the Chicago Bears from the Giants. And Mac Jones who was selected by the New England Patriots.

A few centerbacks were also chosen as well, such as Jaycee Horn by the Panthers and Patrick Surtain II by the Broncos.

The Buccaneers won last year's Super Bowl, and they did also sweep up a quarterback, Kyle Trask. They also swept up a couple of linebackers too.

However, we would keep an eye on the quarterbacks that made it into the pop picks for this year's draft; Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance.

What makes the draft popular?
Considering that all the draft is, is really watching the team select players, it is weirdly very popular. One of the main reasons for this is that the football world actually gets a first glance as the future stars of the league, as they enter it right before our eyes. Being able to see these players in their moment of glory as they get selected, dreams coming true is something truly wonderful to behold.

As well as this, the league does an incredible job of promoting the draft and building up excitement among fans, when the rest of the NFL world is silent, with the Super Bowl long gone, and the NFL season a long way away, the draft fills in the gap in our souls as we wait for it to ll kick off again in the fall.
