About Tunnelside
Tunnelside is a free football manager game for the browser. There is nothing to install: it runs on a computer, a tablet or a phone, and you play in a league with other managers. You register, found a club, choose its name, colours, crest and shirt, design the face of the manager on the touchline and start with a generated squad of eighteen players.
Every player is described by 47 attributes in four groups (technical, mental, physical and goalkeeping) and has a hidden potential, so reading a squad takes real scouting. You see your own players exactly, while everybody else is shown as ranges that narrow as your scout improves. Players grow, tire, get injured and decline with age, and the daily training focus and intensity you choose decides who develops. A backroom team of coach, youth coach, physiotherapist and scout, four upgradable facilities, including an academy that promotes teenage prospects, all play their part.
Tactics are set in two phases, one plan for when you have the ball and another for when you do not, with 12 formations, 68 roles and instructions for the team, for transitions and for set pieces. Matches are simulated minute by minute in real time by a deterministic engine, 90 minutes plus stoppage time, and you can change tactics or make substitutions while the match is live. When you are away, your assistant manager follows your saved plan.
Every league has sixteen clubs, and places that no human manager has taken are filled by computer-managed clubs. A season is a double round robin plus a knockout cup, with tables, fixtures and results on public pages. Twelve free agents go to auction every day, the same twelve for every manager, and a wage budget keeps each squad sustainable.
Everything in the game is fictional: no real players, clubs or leagues appear.
